I had DVD MovieFactory 3 installed on my PC, and I updated it to 3.5. However, I had to restore my computer, and now, I can't find the 3.5 version to update my 3.0 one. Please, help.

You can no longer update to the 3.5 version of DVD MovieFactory because it is too old and the developer doesn't provide it anymore. In the meantime, Ulead DVD MovieFactory has been rebranded into Corel DVD MovieFactory and the current version is 7. The new product can be found on Corel's official website.
As far as updating your edition of Ulead DVD MovieFactory goes, according to the page previously mentioned, you can do that, but you're going to have to pay for the update. In case you need additional details, I recommend contacting Corel directly using this link: http://www.corel.com/en/contact-us/
This problem could be caused by the lack of necessary codecs available on your computer or the codec used to play the files. First check the Audio functionality in your computer by going to the Device Manager (Start > Run> devmgmt.msc). If everything works just fine, then go to the application's page at Software Informer and download the Combined Community Codec Pack. Install the package, reboot the computer and choose another audio codec for your slideshow.
Based on the official description and files that you can import, I can say that the application supports GIF format. It's not specified, however, if it will play the animated file or not, but since you create a stand-alone application, I believe you will have the files in their native mode for the animated GIFs. Yes, you can add GIFs to create a movie while using this authoring tool.
